 Film Premiers for Little Hollywood Shootout Taking Place at Crescent Moon Theater on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 6:30 pm

The 5th annual “Little Hollywood Shootout,” film challenge culminates with community screening premiers of submitted films on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 6:30 pm in the Crescent Moon Theater, located at 150 S 100 E, Kanab, UT 84741. Community members and participants are strongly encouraged and invited to attend. 

The “shootout” is a quick-turnaround film challenge requiring filmmakers to produce a short film with Kane County locations as the backdrop. At high noon, on March 11, film production requirements such as locations and a theme were revealed to participants. Competitors then have 51.5 hours to write, direct, edit, and complete a five-minute film. Film submissions are due at 2:30 pm on Friday, March 13, 2015. Festivities of the Little Hollywood Shootout conclude with film premiers and awards ceremony taking place at Kanab’s Crescent Moon Theater, showcasing all submitted films on the evening of Saturday, March 14, 2015 starting at 6:30 pm. 

Prospective filmmakers of all ages from beginners to veterans are invited to take part in the challenge. Primary filming locations are required to take place in Kane County and editing and post-production can take place at the participants desired location. Two divisions are available for participants with one category intended for novice filmmakers of all ages looking to gain experience and the other division designed for competitors who have experience in film production.  

The Little Hollywood Education Series will take place at the Kanab City Library, located at 374 N Main St, Kanab, UT 84741,on Saturday, March 14, 2015 starting at 11:00 am with a special presentation from Derek Mellus, Producer Services Executive, with the Utah Film Commission. Following the Utah Film Commission, Pamela Arts, Artistic Director with the Southern Utah Center for the Arts and Reel School will then speak at noon, with an acting for film workshop. Lunch will be provided and is free for anyone interested in attending the Little Hollywood Education Series, offering an educational  and network opportunity for participants.

 

The Utah Film Commission is part of the Utah Office of Tourism, Film and Global Branding under the Utah Governor's Office of Economic Development. The Film Commission was established in 1974 to market the entire State of Utah as a destination for film, television, and commercial productions by promoting local professional crew, services and locations. The knowledgeable staff is here to assist productions with all filming needs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from initial scouts and pre-production to principal photography and post-production. The UFC office provides professional and timely consulting to your production questions, and can assist with the inevitable last-minute changes for production needs. The Utah Film Commission manages the Utah Motion Picture Incentive Program, which offers a 20 – 25 percent tax credit for approved productions.

 

REEL School is a total immersion film school for students who are serious about filmmaking. Student ages are young adult and up, although REEL School will accept 16-year-olds who have the maturity to handle the program. It is possible for high school students in the REEL School program to receive their high school diploma and their Bachelor of Arts at the same time.
